In our commitment to our philosophy of attendance is important to maximize student learning and achievement and to support state and federal initiatives, we want to refocus on ensuring students are in school.
As we approach the end of the current semester, we would like to inform you of a new attendance policy that goes into effect next semester.
The new policy states that after a total of ten (10) days of absence that have been excused by a parent note, students are required to present a written statement from a physician for each additional absence for the school year in order to be excused. This new attendance policy is intended to combat chronic absenteeism, a statewide concern that all Kentucky school districts are being asked to address. Absences included in this new policy are cumulative from August 28, 2023 (the first day of school for the 2023-24 school year).
Some exceptions to the 10-absence rule do exist. Parents/guardians of students with a chronic illness or disability should notify the school in writing, accompanied by a physician’s verification. Special consideration may also be given for (1) death or severe illness in the immediate family or (2) required court appearances.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and know that you, too, realize that attending school provides students with knowledge, skills, and opportunities to achieve academic and personal goals.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at any time.
