Model Laboratory School at Eastern Kentucky University hired Alix Castillo as the new Varsity Head Coach of the Girls’ Soccer program.
Alix Castillo is taking the reins of the program after serving as the Middle School Head Coach during the 2022 season. Castillo also has over 10 years of experience as a local player at Madison Central and a collegiate player at Lindsey Wilson College.
“Model holds such a high standard for their students both inside of the classroom and in the students' extracurricular activities,” Castillo added, “Growing up playing against Model you knew that they were going to be a tough team due to that standard that they are held up to. I am excited to set these standards for the girls and watch them exceed them.”
Castillo not only coaches the Lady Patriots, she also teaches during the day in Primary grades as a classroom teacher.
“A coach doesn't only have to be a coach,” Castillo said. “‘I am your friend, but once we are on the field, I am your coach.’ I want the girls to trust and know they can come and talk to me about things they need help with, whether it's related to soccer or not.”
As Castillo moves into this soccer season, she maintains the same philosophy her former coaches had. Her top leading initiatives break down into listening to players, building relationships, and allowing players to help create game strategy in real-time.
“As a coach, I think it is important to keep an open mindset and adjust as you need to,” Castillo shared. “Seeing what they have to say about what is happening in the game is very important.”
“In order for a team to be successful, we need to play as a whole instead of individuals. I hope that this team will work hard for one another and hold each other accountable,” Castillo said. “I know that with our hard work in the summer we will be prepared to take on our season.”
