This week, Model Laboratory had Professional Writer Kelly Jean Fitzsimmons lead a 3-Day college essay writing workshop for Seniors and Juniors in AP English. ✏️🗒 As students in grades 11 and 12 are planning their next steps after Model High, they are learning how to tell their stories through college applications and essays. To assist them with this, they all participated in the 3-day writing workshop with writer, educator, and storyteller Kelly Jean Fitzsimmons. As a former AP Program Information writer for the College Board, Kelly Jean now leads college essay writing workshops across the country with the purpose of teaching students how to extend their story in the reader's mind through a college essay.

❗️𝙏𝙊𝙋 𝟯 𝙃𝙄𝙂𝙃 𝙎𝘾𝙃𝙊𝙊𝙇❗️ With the release of the most recent accountability ratings, Model High School has the third-highest rating in the Commonwealth making us one of the top three high schools in Kentucky! Model High School moved up two spots from the previous accountability and is one of only 24 high schools reported at the highest level. 🎉 Additionally, Model Elementary School is rated in the top 50 out of 719 Kentucky elementary schools! 🥳 Thank you to all who support our path toward excellence!

The Book Fair opens for previewing tomorrow! 📚🥰 Starting Monday, October 30 through Friday, November 3 it will be open for purchasing. Your child will have the opportunity to preview and create a wish list before visiting the Book Fair to purchase. This week, your Elementary student should have brought home information about the Book Fair, such as payment options (including how to set up an e-wallet), how to gift a book or gift certificate to a teacher of your choice, and when your child's class will preview the Book Fair. 🎃🍁 Model Parent Organization (MPO) is hosting its annual Fall Festival this Friday, October 20, beginning at 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in Model's gymnasium. There will be several silent auction items, including items and products created by Model students, as well as inflatables, games, and more. Join us for a night of Family Fun; we hope to see all of the Model Family there!

We are gathering students in grades 3-12 on one stage for a production Model Lab has never seen before. We hope everyone had a restful Fall Break because we definitely were busy before taking a week off. 🎃 Grade 1 students started Fall Break early with a field trip to the pumpkin patch 🍂 Grade 1 students also learned how to nature journal in the outdoor classroom 🏐 Volleyball marked the program's first-ever district win 🎻 Orchestra performed at the YMCA Benefit Dinner ☺️ Grade 5 students celebrated National Do Something Nice Day by creating a "graffiti wall of kindness" for the Elementary faculty

🥳👩‍⚖️👨‍⚖️ Congratulations to our Mock Trial team! The Mock Trial team competed at Yale University this weekend in the Yale Bulldog Invitational. They finished fourth among 24 of the top teams in the country. Kylie Pirtle (‘24) earned an Outstanding Attorney Award in-person with 19 ranks, as well as an Outstanding Witness Award virtually with 20 ranks. Lucy Taliaferro (‘24) won an Outstanding Attorney Award virtually with 19 ranks. We are so proud of our Mock Trial Team and their dedication to excellence! 🏆🤩

We've been staying busy since school started back last month, but hey, we're having a great time with our Model Family! ❤ Whether we're rushing our favorite clubs, petting snakes during EKU's STEM Week, bringing the hype to the pep rally, or catching that pep bus to cheer on the Patriots, we're all about the good times here at Model. Don't worry, we're still giving our best effort in class, too, whether it's soaking up the sun in outdoor science class or discovering how to make our mark. We already know it is going to be a GREAT year full of opportunities and experiences! 🤩📚✏️

⚽️🏆 REGION CHAMPIONS! 🏆⚽️ The Varsity Boys Soccer Team recorded a big W Thursday, August 31, as they topped Frankfort in the Championship game of the All A Classic Tournament. It's a great day to be a Patriot! 🥳

We had the BEST first day of school! Our students deserve the best, and that's exactly what Model Laboratory Schools, Eastern Kentucky University, and the EKU Colonels delivered! The morning had a giant inflatable slide, EKU student-athletes cheering students on as they arrived, and a delicious breakfast as soon as they walked through the doors. We appreciate every EKU Colonel who made this day extra special and exciting for our students and their families, including EKU Football, EKU Bands / EKU Marching Colonels, EKU Men's Basketball, EKU Women’s Soccer, EKU Women's Basketball, EKU Beach Volleyball, EKU Cheerleading, EKU Baseball, and EKU Dance Team.

Our week could not have started better than meeting our students and their families! 🥳 We hosted our annual New Family Picnic and Orientation as a big welcome into the Model Family and launched our 6th Grade Academy this week. Students also came to visit teachers and discover new classrooms, and we were so glad to have crowded hallways again!
