John Morgerson Named as Model High School Basketball Coach

Model Laboratory School is pleased to announce the appointment of John Morgerson as the Varsity Boys’ Basketball coach.  

Model Athletic Director Scotty Sutton highlighted, “Morgerson comes from terrific high school program where he has used the last ten years to prepare himself for leading a program of his own to make his mark.”

Morgerson advances as a head coach having served as an assistant coach at West Jessamine High School working under head coach Damon Kelley.  He has held that role for the past four (4) years. 

Prior to West Jessamine, Morgerson coached middle school Basketball and Volleyball at Leestown Middle School in Fayette County.

Morgerson is a 2003 graduate of Henry Clay High School where he was a three-year letterman in basketball.  After graduating, John then attended the University of Kentucky earning a Master’s Degree in special education and a Rank I in school improvement. 

Coach Morgerson is excited to begin working with the team. “My hope for the basketball program is that we have players that love the game and love to compete on a daily basis. I’m looking forward to the next 6 months as we work hard to get ready for our season.”

Morgerson is married to Whitney, a Richmond native, they have one daughter Anna who’s 5 and they are expecting their second child, a son in June. 

“We are pleased to welcome John and his family as our newest Patriots,” offered John Williamson, superintendent at Model Lab.  “We look forward to Coach Morgerson’s leadership and the beginning of a new era in the Model boys’ basketball program.”
