John Morgerson Announced as Head Coach of Women’s Golf

Coach John Morgerson

Model Laboratory School at Eastern Kentucky University has hired John Morgerson as the new head women’s golf coach.

Morgerson came to Model in 2019 as a special education teacher and head coach of the men’s basketball team.

Morgerson takes over a program that has been on the upswing in recent years with one

KHSAA state qualifier in Abby Harrel (’19), multiple All-A individual qualifiers, and several team tournament titles last season.

Morgerson sets a high standard for his players and a close family atmosphere. “I’m very excited about having a positive impact on the team,” Morgerson said. “I hope to build on the progress other coaches had started several years ago, and take this team to even greater heights.”

Athletic Director Scotty Sutton commented, “We are elated about John taking over the women’s golf program. He’s a big part of the Model community already, and that will allow him to continue to recruit young talent and help this program grow.”

The team will begin practice on July 15, if allowed by the KHSAA, and will kick-off their season in August.

In addition to his duties in the classroom and basketball court, Morgerson has been an avid golf fan for several years. His leadership and organizational skills will continue to lead the women's golf program in the right direction.

Morgerson lives in Richmond with his wife, Whitney, and children, Anna and Eli.
